Sometimes Life is Messy

I had this thought the other day in the midst of a “mess”. I don’t even remember what was happening but it wasn’t good. It just struck me- Sometimes life is messy. Sometimes life is beautiful. Sometimes life is messy in the middle of the beauty and sometimes you find beauty in the middle of the mess. This is just the ebb and flow of life.

real life, family life, large family life

Sometimes Life is Messy

I think it is so easy to look at the lives of others and think that they have it all together and don’t have any problems. Especially looking at blogs and things posted online. I mean, only perfect people have blogs, right? I guess some of us are just crazy enough to share our messy lives with the world. ?

The truth is, everyone has problems from time to time. We are all learning and more often than not we are learning through failure.

When you are raising animals, there are definitely a lot of hard times. Losses that just happen or some that could have been prevented, animals get loose and run wild, equipment fails, years that the garden is less than abundant, the list really goes on. Like that time our pig ran away and was gone for 9 days. Or the time our heifer ran away and was gone for a few months (yes, months ?).

Or the time a snake ate Kylie’s favorite chick

Then there was the time someone’s dogs were loose and attacked our flock, killing a couple of hens and our guinea. We also had the time that we had a broody hen that hatched 2 chicks, we were so excited. Well, we forgot to close up their coop one night and they were eaten, that was a hard lesson for sure.

Then the day that Farmer Derek’s truck blew the end off of the intercooler when he was over an hour away from home. I loaded up the farm kids and picked up the new one to take to him. Six hundred dollars and several hours later ?, he had it all put back together and running.

There are so many more situations but I think you get my point. Stuff happens. It happens to all of us. We can choose to dwell on the mess or we can chalk them up to learning experiences and move forward.

And the time our truck engine had to be replaced

For as many bad experiences that we have, we have many more good experiences. Those are the ones we need to focus on. We have the joy of bringing new animals home to the farm. We see the seeds we plant turn into food for our family. We fill our freezer with clean meat for delicious healthy meals. We have the vehicles and equipment  that we need to run our farm.

Most importantly, we have our family. In the good times and the not so good times, we have each other. That’s what matters in life.

So friends, I encourage you to find beauty in and enjoy your messy life. I’m enjoying my beautiful messy life.

Always good to hear from you. So true, life is messy some time; yet in all this we look to our Creator and give thanks not only for the good that comes to us but for the endurance to make it through with a smile and know He remains faithful in it all.
As always we love hearing from our family. Take care, we would love to see you all, perhaps soon.
