Our Homestead Accomplishments in 2014 | The Flip Flop Barnyard

Farmer Derek and I started talking about our homesteading goals for the 2015 year when we were driving to the feed mill the other day. While he was driving I was making a list of all of the things we would like to at least work towards this year. After we got our list going we started talking about everything that we had done in 2014. As we were talking we began to realize that we had accomplished a bit more than we thought so I made a list of that too.

I wanted to share our accomplishments with you. I have written posts about many of them and you can read the full details of each if you’d like to. Here is what we were able to do in 2014.

Built raised garden beds

Had a successful square foot garden

Canned food to get through the winter

Raised and butchered our own pastured meat chickens

Raised our own pastured pigs (to be butchered very soon)

Learned how to utilize more of the space where we are

Found a local non-gmo and soy-free feed mill (with good prices!)

Started and maintained sourdough

Made cheese

Got 18 baby chicks to be next year’s egg layers

Started this blog and my YouTube channel

Built a barn, a fence, and a milking stanchion

And the best thing that happened on the homestead this year was getting Gertie, our very own family milk cow!

Wow! What a year it has been! To say that we have been abundantly blessed would be an understatement. It is so hard for me to believe that the year 2014 has come and gone. It seems like it practically flew by.

It is so easy in life to look at all of the things we didn’t get to finish or didn’t get to do at all. It was so nice to be able to look at a list of all of our successes in one year. The things that we didn’t get to try or finish last year just got put on this year’s list. What were some of your 2014 accomplishments?
