I was honored and privileged to be able to read and review Jessica E. Lane’s (of 104 Homestead) new book, Chicken Hot Topics: Controversial Husbandry Practices . I thoroughly enjoyed her insight and opinion on some differing views on raising chickens. This is my very first book review so I am very excited to bring you my opinion about this book.
We follow alternative animal husbandry practices and there are so many differing views and ways of doing things. Chicken owners often have different opinions on the best way to care for and raise their flock. This book offers wonderful insight into many aspects of raising chickens that can turn into heated debates between chicken owners. I believe this book provokes the want to do deeper research to come to the best choices for keeping and caring for your chickens. Jessica busts myths and shares many facts on chicken issues from natural health care, bedding choices, to feed and much more. I know that I am rethinking some of our choices for raising chickens and will be researching some of the topics covered in this book to make some changes.
I do not have anything negative to say about this book. I sat down and read it from “cover to cover” (ebook) without stopping. I was so enthralled in the information that I just didn’t want to put it down. One of the things I really loved about it was that it is an easy read. With all of the information and books out there it is so easy to get overwhelmed. Chicken Hot Topics touches on many subjects with a thorough and easy to understand explanation. It leaves you with a great place to start further research on a specific topic.
I strongly encourage you to buy your own copy of this book whether you are a seasoned chicken owner, just starting out, or want to get started but don’t know where to go. This is a great book to add to the chicken owner’s library of go-to guides for quick reference. I know that I will continually be referencing and learning from it.
